God's Grace

Feeling Empty?

Have you ever felt dead inside, tired, or worthless? Or sensed that something just isn’t right? Life goes on, but the why behind it all remains unclear. At times, trying to find your own way feels good, but often it leaves an emptiness. These feelings are common. So, why do many of us feel like something is missing?

Such emptiness points to a deeper need—perhaps the greatest need of all. But what could it be?

Our Deepest Problem

Understanding our greatest need starts with recognizing the reason behind it.

A serious problem confronts us all—one of our own making. This problem is death.

You might ask, “Death? How could we have created death?”

It came when humanity rejected the Giver of Life. Something brought us into existence and gave us life. Whether you call it God or by another name, this being is the good and loving Creator of all life.

Sadly, everyone has turned away from Him, choosing their own path instead. This rejection led to mistakes, wrongdoing, and ultimately sin—doing what God says is wrong. Sin brought death into life, causing spiritual deadness within us (Romans 5:12, Ephesians 2:1). While living for earthly pleasures can seem enjoyable, it often results in emptiness and a lack of purpose. Lost in spiritual deadness, we don’t know where we’re going or what lies ahead.

No person is perfect; all have fallen short of moral perfection. Guilt and a sense of wrongness affect us all at times. This deadness of spirit is real, even if difficult to admit. Therefore, delivering us from the sin inside is our greatest need.

The Good News of God's Grace

Thankfully, there is hope. God is rich in mercy and grace (Ephesians 2:4). Grace means undeserved kindness.

Even when we were spiritually dead because of sin, Jesus made life possible again through God’s grace (Ephesians 2:5).

He desires to heal your heart, cleanse you from sin, and welcome you into His heavenly kingdom—where you can enjoy His grace forever (Ephesians 2:6).

Grace is a free gift. Jesus purchased it by dying on the cross for our sins. Although we deserve God’s judgment for our wrongs, Jesus took our punishment. If we accept Him as payment for our sins, God forgives us and grants everlasting life (Romans 6:23, John 3:16).

This gift of grace cannot be earned or claimed by our own efforts (Ephesians 2:9). Only through Jesus—who died and rose again, conquering sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)—can we receive it.

How to Respond to God's Grace

Calling out to Jesus is the way to receive this grace. He knows your heart and can hear you wherever you are. His desire is to make you free from guilt and shame, transforming you into a masterpiece of grace.

If you want to accept Jesus and His grace, pray with these steps:

Confess: Confess your sin to Jesus. Tell Him that you know you have sinned against Him.

Believe: Believe that Jesus died and rose for you. Tell Jesus that you believe He literally died and rose again so that you could be forgiven.

Accept: Humbly accept Jesus as your personal Saviour.

A Prayer You Can Pray

Here is a prayer to guide you:

“Lord Jesus, I believe you that you are God and that I have sinned against you and that I deserve to be punished for my wrongs. But I also believe that You died for my sins so that I could be forgiven and that You rose again to life so I can live with God forever. I want to be saved from my sin. Please forgive me and cleanse me from sin. I humbly and thankfully accept Jesus and Jesus alone as my Saviour. Thank you, Jesus. Amen. ”

What Happens Now?

If you have sincerely prayed something like this to Jesus for forgiveness of sin, you can be confident that Jesus has taken your sin away because we know that “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Jesus will never reject anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37). As God’s child, you are kept safe in His hands (John 10:29). Even if you sin again, God’s love remains. Simply confess and ask for help to do right. Jesus promises never to leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

God wants to bless you with more of His grace. You can grow in God’s grace by reading the Bible, praying, and joining a Bible-teaching church.
